I also saw a video where I could have the two TB ports in use and then get a USB to HDMI for the far right side of the MBP. Right now, I have forgone the far left and simply opened my MBP to make that the 3rd monitor. Does this third monitor need to be DVI based? So, instead of VGA to mini DisplayPort, would DVI to mini Display Port work? I can interchange these, so if I unplug one, the other will work (into the TB ports), but I can't have all three plugged in and working. Far left monitor was a VGA to mini DisplayPort. Middle monitor (I use this vertical) is DVI to HDMI (plugged into monitor) and then an HDMI to mini DisplayPort to hook into the MBP. Far right monitor plugged into the right side HDMI port. I am having similar issues you had with the 2 active and then other one "dark." From what I've read, it sounds like the MBP will not support VGA to mini DisplayPort, right? Here's how I have it. I've read several articles and maybe I'm not comprehending. I wanted to connect to 3 monitors, but can't seem to get it right. I got a mid 2015 MBP 15" at the end of last year. “MBPR 2015 multi monitor”) lead to NO answers (including a revolving reddit post), and I sure as hell didn’t want to use a USB based external display. When I called Apple (whom handled my call actually phenomenally) they had no answers at all. When I swapped the 2012 for the 2015, one monitor sadly stood in the darkness.

The GeForce out of the box could support at least 3 monitors using your standard HDMI out and Mini DisplayPort (mDP) to DVI/HDMI/VGA (average cost of these cables range $10-$20).

Apple went from the typical GeForce (650M) application to the latest AMD Radeon chips (R9 M370X 2GB). So I pulled the trigger on the newest 15″ MacBook Pro Retina (Mid 2015). I figured If I purchased a new MacBook I’d wait for the new Intel Skylake CPU, but of course Apple nixed it from the 15″ 2015s (13″s got it). Even the battery still lasts a good 3-4 hours! I however quickly met the limits of the machine with my line of work. I’ve been waiting for the 2nd gen MacPro to come out (I assumed it was going to be part of the Spring 2015 releases), but that came and passed with no luck – again.īeing on a maxed out 2012 15″ MacBook Pro Retina was great for a while.
